I just had to run downstairs in boxers and a thermal shirt to get a package that turned out not even to be for me. With the door open, it smelled nice down there: Eau de Winter-Finally-Freaking-Came: Cold winter air with just a hint of snow. Well, plus a bit of a stale laundry-soap and creamed corn. But still, SNOW!

Smells of my apartment building….
August 26, 2006I’ve threatened to do this ever since I first came into this building. We moved in here in mid-August. It is a nice, older, 3-story building. Dark brown brick with white trim and red trim on the roof. Charming. We’re on the third floor, and it’s a walk-up, which made moving a pain but isn’t as inconvenient as people seem to think it is. There are some things I’d change about this place if I could, but it’s generally nice.
HOWEVER. The delicious intermingling of cultures that occurs in the building means that the entrance area downstairs has the most peculiar smells in it every day. Always peculiar, always different, never quite right. So, a semi-regular feature will now be “Smells of my apartment building,” where I will document the more interesting variations.
Today’s tasty combination: Eau de Somebody’s-Dog-Went-Into-the-Lake-and-The-Farmer’s-Market-Had-A-Sale, a.k.a. wet dog and overripe tomatoes and peaches.
